Looking for Information on the Homrich’s

Thursday, September 29th, 2005

Can someone help here?  I did quick searchs on and on our Wiki & Seeker sites, but didn’t find anything.  Melissa is with the Salvation Army in Seattle and is trying to help out:

My name is Melissa and I work for The Salvation Army in Seattle,
Washington.  We received a handwritten note on the back of a donation slip,
written in shaky hand, from a man named Lyle Homrich.  He said he had had
no news of his niece and nephew in Slidell, their names are Jan-Marie
Homrich and Jack Homrich, Jr.  I have searched on-line at the Red Cross
site and several others and have had no luck; I don’t know if you are aware
of any other way to find out about these folks?  It looks like your blog is
all-things-Slidell, do you have any advice?

St. Tammany Opens Up

Friday, September 9th, 2005

From this morning:

St. Tammany officially opens to residents
Friday, 6:30 a.m.

St. Tammany Parish President Kevin Davis has given residents the official "all clear'’ to return to their property today beginning at 8 a.m.

The parish had requested that residents stay away to facilitate restoration of utilities and debris cleanup in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, but many people had been returning for several days, Davis told WWL-TV.

"We wanted to get them back to the parish so that they could look at their properties and evaluate the situation,'’ he said.

The storm claimed the lives of six people, and authorities are expected to continue their house-to-house search today for more fatalities.

A 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. curfew remains in effect, Davis said.

Davis also asked residents to stay off the streets, because 3,000 crews are working to restore utility service. About 33 percent of electricity has been restored, he said.

The parish will also begin debris pickup today, starting with trees.

About 6,000 people are currently staying in shelters. Officials hope to re-open the parish’s public schools Oct. 3.

Found: Mary McKenzie

Wednesday, September 7th, 2005

In response to Diane McKenzie’s query from yesterday, I have heard that Mary is fine.  She spoke with my mother in law last week.  I think she, her new husband and Richard’s family were in North Mississippi.  When I hear specifics, I’ll email you.  But, know that they are safe.

I am looking for any info on my family. Mary McKenzie. This is my aunt that lives in Sildell. All I have is a phone number. Our family has not heard for her or any of 4 kids. She is an elder person, all of her children are grown and we are not sure if she was alone or with one of kids, Richard or Greg. If anyone has any info about any of The McKenzie family Please get in touch with me at 813 9685279 or if anyone talks to her Please have her call Sally.

An Info Request from Down Under

Wednesday, August 31st, 2005

A reader from Oz writes:

Does anyone have any information regarding the whereabouts of the residents from Northshore Living Center?
My brother (who lives in Cross Gates) said that Slidell had a mandatory evacuation order and so he assumes the residents were evacuated, but he has no idea where or how to contact them.  He and his family went to Jackson, MS and are now on their way to Indiana. I live in Australia and as you can imagine it is not easy to get much info all the way down here.
Many thanks,

Paging Ginger Lee

Wednesday, August 31st, 2005

Really, the best way for you all to post these is to put them in the comments.  My email is full, phone ringing, IM a buzzing.  I want every bit of info up, but I don’t want to be a bottleneck.  So, quickest way is to use comments.  I’ll try to post anything I get by email, but may take me a bit.

Please post on your hurricane blog:
Ginger Lee of Slidell, your mother (Fran) and Lanny are looking for you.  I am Lanny’s son, Troy, and am sending this as they have limited communication.  They are staying at your Grandmother’s house in GA and are OK.  You can e-mail me at and I can relay info for you.
Thanks, Brian, for your help.

Missing Person Request: Michelle Lestage

Wednesday, August 31st, 2005

Sorry for the info stoppage, folks.  Had to do a quick meeting.  Lots on the way.  Can anyone help out here?

SLIDELL LA- Hurricane Katrina missing person.

Missing Person: Michelle Lestage (one of head nurses at Slidell Memorial Hospital, Gauss Blvd Slidell)., Age about 30, blond hair.

Circumstance. Michelle had to stay as part of the emergency team at SMH. Her parents , Ray and Charlene Partridge along with Michelle’s daughter Sydney, her sister (Mellissa) and brother in law evacuated to Jacksonville Fl to my home and were talking with Michelle during the height of the eyewall passage event. Ray heard a scream and the phone went dead. We have not heard from her since. We have since learned that possibly the roof collapsed on the hospital.

Please contact her parents at my home phone of (904) 751-7327 or me at my work number with any information on Michelle’s condition if possible. We understand Slidell information is very hard to get due to the extensive flooding and damage to roads in and out. Michelle’s fiancé is the newly designated Fire Dept Chief of emergency services in Slidell named “Rusty” (Russel) Shoultz. We have not heard from him either.
